Just a few scintilating opinions from a sometimes cantakerous software
architect:
ASPToday.com is dead?
04/01/2003
Well, maybe it's not dead yet, but I have first hand knowledge that Wrox
publishing is filing for bankruptcy. I know this because I wrote some articles
for them recently, then received a letter that I would not get paid. Some have
speculated that book sales dropped once they started using pictures of less
than photogenic programmers on their covers.
Well, whatever the reason, I am sorry to see them go. They had a good thing
going for a while!
hungarian notation is dead!
04/01/2003
Well, maybe it is not dead yet, but the debate over its demise is raging. My
opinion is that with the excellent tools provided by Visual Studio.Net,
variable names no longer need cryptic little prefixes to identify them. For
instance, VS.Net provides "Intellisense", so if you are uncertain about a
variable's type, all you have to do is hover your mouse pointer over the
variable and a tooltip will appear with the definition for the variable.
Besides, if you design your classes and methods well, it should not be hard to
determine what variables are for without Intellisense. So, do yourself a
favor. Make your code more concise and easier to read by dropping
Hungarian Notation.

This day marks the release of my new site design, providing me with a home page
for ranting about various subjects.
